Did you know that images can be deduced from reflections from more objects than just mirrors? For example, if you stand at the mouth of a cave and holler into it, the image you get is called an echo. If you throw a flat rock into a pond in such a fashion that it skips across the face of the water, the image you get is called a ripple. And when the sun’s rays penetrate the mists of raindrops at just the right angle, the image reflected is called a rainbow.
Now let us concentrate on this trend of thought for just a little while longer as we discuss our friends. As Christians we are admonished by the word of God to show ourselves friendly. In other words…‘reflect an image of brotherly love’. Which means to display an air of hospitality towards those we come into intimate contact with. Now, let us eavesdrop on what saith the Lord. (To obtain the greatest impact from the conversation below, it is suggested that female voices read the Matthew scriptures and male voices read the 1 Corinthians scriptures.) |
A GOOD MAN OUT OF THE GOOD TREASURE OF HIS HEART BRINGS FORTH GOOD THINGS. Matthew 12:35a
[Never the less]…Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1
(BUT MY BELOVED), I SAY TO YOU, IF YOU HAVE FAITH AS A MUSTARD SEED, YOU WILL SAY TO THIS MOUNTAIN, ‘MOVE FROM HERE TO THERE,’ AND IT WILL MOVE; AND NOTHING WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU. Matthew 17:20
(But, woman, have you not heard?)…Though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:2
(WELL), IF YOU WANT TO BE PERFECT, GO, SELL WHAT YOU HAVE AND GIVE TO THE POOR, AND YOU WILL HAVE TREASURE IN HEAVEN. Matthew 19:21
(Beloved),…Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:3
(THAN TAKE THIS ADVICE)…LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, BLESS THOSE WHO CURSE YOU, DO GOOD TO THOSE WHO HATE YOU, AND PRAY FOR THOSE WHO SPITEFULLY USE YOU AND PERSECUTE YOU, THAT YOU MAY BE SONS OF YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN. Matthew 5:44 & 45a
(Good advice, because)…Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil. 1 Corinthians 13:4 & 5
(NOW REMEMBER, MY DEAR)…IF YOUR BROTHER SINS AGAINST YOU, GO AND TELL HIM HIS FAULT BETWEEN YOU AND HIM ALONE. Matthew 18:15a
(Right again,)…[Love] Does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in truth. 1 Cor. 13:6
(YOU EXUDE LOVE!)…YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. A CITY THAT IS SET ON A HILL CANNOT BE HIDDEN. Matthew 5:14
(Love)…bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:7
(ALSO) YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH; BUT IF THE SALT LOSES ITS FLAVOR, HOW SHALL IT BE SEASONED? Matthew 5:13a
(With love, of course!)…Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; 1 Corinthians 13:8a
(YOU MUST) WATCH THEREFORE, FOR YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT HOUR YOUR LORD IS COMING. Matthew 24:42
(Know this)…Whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. 1 Corinthians 13:8b, 9, 10
(I TELL YOU THE TRUTH) UNLESS YOU ARE CONVERTED AND BECOME AS LITTLE CHILDREN, YOU WILL BY NO MEANS ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. Matt. 18:3
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 1 Corinthians 13:11
(YOU HAVE A GOOD EYE, BECAUSE) THE LAMP OF THE BODY IS THE EYE. IF THERE FORE YOUR EYE IS GOOD, YOUR WHOLE BODY WILL BE FULL OF LIGHT. Matt. 6:22
Now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. 1 Cor. 13:12a
THEN THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN IN THE KINGDOM OF THEIR FATHER. Matthew 13:43
Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 1 Cor. 13:12b
(ALWAYS KNOW THIS) YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND. THIS IS THE FIRST AND GRTEAT COMMANDMENT. Matthew 22:37 & 38
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three. 1 Corinthians 13:13a
ALL TOGETHER…
BUT THE GREATEST OF THESE IS L-O-V-E. 1 Corinthians 13:13b
Scripture reference: “Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.” Hebrews 13:1-3 |
