“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God…etc., etc., etc.” (Psalm 42:1a)
Hello, my dear friends, newbies, followers and all other curious souls who have landed on this week’s blog post from Conversations With God Using Scripture. The Holy Spirit put it into my heart to share with you an amusing incident that I witnessed a few years ago while looking out of my office widow in my home. It concerned the antics of a squirrel. When a person tries to truly live close to God similarly how I strive to do, you cannot help but seek Biblical signs of His approval.
So, the first thing I did as I smiled and recalled the squirrel incident in my mind, I began to search the internet for free pexil (pictures) images of squirrels searching for food. You see, for quite a long time I had been staring out the window watching a single squirrel running back and forth along the top of my wooden backyard fence, pausing at a large tree planted just a few feet within my yard. The squirrel would look up at the first branch on the tree that just happened to have a bird feeder plate hanging on it.
The squirrel would sit there staring up at the tree a few minutes, then quickly retrace his running exercise back and forth along the top of my wooden fence. The squirrel repeated this exercise about 5 or 6 times, then suddenly disappeared.
I sat there staring out of my window and I thought to myself…Oh, little squirrel, please don’t give up. Then, I recited a prayer: “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? ” (Matthew 6:27, 27)
I was shocked at what I witnessed next! For along the top of my fence came running 2 little squirrels heading for that tree. Suddenly they stopped, took one look at each other, then they both sprang for the base of the tree and scampered up towards the bird feeder. They took one last look at each other, than sprang for the side corners of the base of the bird feeder. The two squirrels began to pumped the bird feed into a swinging motion until all of the bird seed fell to the ground. They both actually ‘flew‘ back onto the trunk of the tree…scampered down the side of the fence, reached the ground and dined sufficiently!
My friends have a problem believing me when I retell this amazing event. It was the most comical thing I had ever witnessed. I’m going to be sure I retell this event to all my family and friends when I get to the Promise Land.
My Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I long for Your presence in my life as a deer and the squirrels thirst for water and food. Thank You that I can and have experienced Your closeness every day and that my relationship with You can grow stronger and stronger even as I witness your miraculous feats among the least of thees.
