Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest! John 4:35
This week’s blog concerns itself with a metaphorically definition of the word “fields”. If you study the picture long enough you can almost see the 3 bikers pedaling back to their village to spread the good news. While in the forrest and after an encounter with the Holy Spirit the trio had already discussed that surely the trees are ripe for harvest. (John 4:35)
According to the parable of the weeds in the field, in Matthew 13:37-43, the field represents the world which is made up of good seed and also bad seed. The good seed stands for the people of God’s Kingdom. The bad seed or weeds are people of the evil one and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
The Holy Spirit guided me to reflect on that remarkable biblical story about the first two children born to Adam and Eve named Cain and Abel.

Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field (the world). While they were in the field, Cain (who represents evil) attacked his brother Abel (who represents good) and killed him." Gen. 4:8
Also, according to 1st Corinthians 3:9, our present world which is our abode, also represents the field. Our memory verse, John 4:35 is the epilogue of Jesus' rendezvous with the woman at the well (an ill reputed woman). By engaging her in conversation, Jesus laid the foundation for her to receive salvation and eternal life. The woman returned to her home and took that foundation back and proclaimed it in her home town (the field).
Now, Jesus is further instructing his disciples and us to build on that foundation, too, by opening our eyes and looking at the fields to see that they are ripe for harvest!
